Any Diabeteze Bars with a best by prior to but not including 25Nov09 should be returned to any Costco for a refund. The best by label is not on the box, but printed on the bar label itself.
The recalled Diabeteze bars were manufactured with peanuts from the Georgia and the Texas plant of Peanut Corporation of America and distributed in northwest Costco warehouses. Peanut Corporation of America has issued a recall for all products manufactured by the Texas plant. These products were used in manufacturing our bars, and therefore we have extended our recall to all bars with a best by date prior to but not including 25Nov09.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 26, 2009 -- Innova Nutrition of Mill Creek, WA is expanding their recall to include all Diabeteze bars with any best by date before but not including 25Nov09 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
They are currently named DiabetEZE, but are going through a re-branding to the name Stabilyze. You can find them at Costco (yay!). Check them out on and learn more about them!
